BLME appoints Roscow Lucas head of syndication
Roscow Lucas has moved from ANZ to the Bank of London and the Middle East (BLME), the London-based Shari’ah-compliant wholesale bank.
Lucas, who spent 11 years at ANZ, latterly as head of global syndication, becomes BLME’s head of syndication. He brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the syndicated loans market, as well as expertise in the Middle and Far East – particularly India and Pakistan – South East Asia and Latin America.
BLME is prospering – after only launching in the UK in July 2007 – as a result of strong demand for Shari’ah-compliant financial products, partly driven by record oil prices. “The syndicated Islamic finance market is growing at unprecedented levels. As the transactions within our market become bigger and more complex, syndicated finance will become an increasingly important mechanism for Islamic bankers,” said Humphrey Percy, CEO of BLME.
BLME claims to be the best capitalised Islamic bank in the UK, following a £75m private-placement fund-raising in February 2007 that increased its paid-up capital to £250m.
