SMBC beefs up London trade finance expertise

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe has beefed up its London-based Global Trade Finance Department with the recruitment of Pepi Bedi and Shirley Mutter.

Bedi joins the Structured Trade and Commodity Finance team at SMBC from VTB Europe, where he worked in a number of roles, including project and structured finance. He has more than 20-years of banking experience, latterly focusing on Russia and the CIS.

His new role will focus on structured trade origination in Russia, the CIS and Africa.

“After 20 years in the metals and mining sector, I was excited by the opportunity to join a leading global structured trade finance bank,” said Bedi. “We expected the demand for commodity structured deals to increase in 2009 and intend to build our market share.”

Joining the same team, Mutter will be primarily responsible for heading the energy relationship unit. She brings with her many years of commodity experience at Credit Lyonnais, Credit Agricole Indosuez and DBS Bank.
