BPL Global has hired former Standard Chartered senior associate Cindy Gunawan, who joins as a broker.

Gunawan brings a strong track record in trade finance distribution to her new role. She will report to Peter Gilbert, the chief executive of BPL’s Singapore subsidiary.

The credit and political risk insurance (CPRI) broker has expanded the size of teams across Singapore, Hong Kong and London by 10% over the past year due to increased demands for political and credit risk insurance.

“We are delighted to announce Cindy’s appointment as we continue to develop the CPRI market in Asia,” said Peter Gilbert.

“In Singapore, we have already this year witnessed increased demand for insurance from clients engaged in international trade, investment and lending, and are scaling up to cope with this.”

BPL Global’s roster of other new recruits include assistant directors James Reynolds and Johnny Carruthers – the company now employs “over 80 members of staff”.

The increased demand for credit and political risk insurance has also benefitted EIA Global, BPL’s partner broker in the US, who recently appointed John Lavelle as their new senior managing director for trade credit, structured trade and political risk insurance.
