Excellence Awards 2017 - Best Trade Bank in Europe: Commerzbank

Awards | 1 August 2017

With its strong presence in Germany, Commerzbank's footprint from Spain to Russia and Sweden to Romania helped it run away with the Best Trade Bank in Europe award.

The bank has also maintained its presence in a variety of sectors, financing trade deals in renewable energy, placing an emphasis on supporting SMEs and continuing to support the commodities market.

"It is a real privilege to be credited among such a high-profile list of winning institutions. The award demonstrates our ongoing efforts to be a close, strategic partner of our clients, both regionally and globally," said Ruediger Geis, head product management trade at Commerzbank.

"We are eager to help our European clients tap into international markets, find new trading opportunities and grow their businesses.

As the race to digitise processes, supply chains and payments systems has heated up, Commerzbank established a 'Digital Campus' in Frankfurt in September 2016, where teams have been exploring ways to use new technologies in trade finance.

Looking forward, Geis said, "One priority will be focusing on the resilience and efficiency of our customers' future supply chains. Another will be continuing to explore the application of distributed technology to trade, identifying practical business cases for our customers."

Runners up: Deutsche Bank, Barclays (12 banks were nominated).
